The Poon Hill Trek is popular and relatively short in the Annapurna region of Nepal, renowned for its sunrise views over the Himalayas and its accessibility to trekkers of varying fitness levels. Starting from the lakeside city of Pokhara, the trek typically begins with a scenic drive to Nayapul, from where the trail winds through charming villages, terraced fields, and rhododendron forests to Ghorepani Village.
As trekkers ascend higher into the hills, they are treated to breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, including Annapurna South (7216 meters), Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters), and Machhapuchhre (6,993 meters). The highlight of the Poon hill trek is the sunrise ascent to Poon Hill, a popular viewpoint situated at an altitude of 3,210 meters. From Poon Hill, trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of the entire Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, glowing in the morning light.
The experience of witnessing the sunrise over the Himalayas is truly magical and leaves a lasting impression on trekkers. After soaking in the breathtaking scenery and capturing unforgettable photos, the trek continues through picturesque villages like Tadapani and Ghandruk, where trekkers can immerse themselves in the local culture and hospitality.
The Poon Hill Trek typically takes around 3 to 5 days to complete, making it an ideal choice for those with limited time or looking for a less strenuous trekking experience. Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or a first-time adventurer, the Poon Hill Trek offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural encounters, and Himalayan adventure, making it one of the most popular treks in Nepal.

Above 3000m, there is a chance to get altitude sickness issues in Nepal. So, Trekkers should ascend gradually, stay hydrated, and recognize the symptoms of altitude sickness. Be honest and don’t lie to yourself if symptoms get worse better back down to lower elevation.

Most of the trekkers find delicious food along the trail, with different meal options. As the Poonhill trek is more commercial now, food and accommodation facilities are getting better day by day to serve their guest in the mountains.
While it’s possible to trek independently, many trekkers opt to hire a guide or porter for added support, safety, and convenience. Guides can provide valuable insights and assistance, while porters can help carry trekking gear and luggage, reducing physical strain.
